Gum Grafting
Gum grafting is a very common procedure and is used to stop and repair gum recession, and to improve the esthetics of your smile.
Gum recession results, in the exposure of the root surface. This is often unsightly because the teeth appear to be too long. Often times, the exposure of the root surface causes increased sensitivity to hot or cold drinks or food.
Your gums may have receded for a variety of reasons, including aggressive tooth brushing or periodontal disease. You may not be in control of what caused the recession, but prior to treatment Drs. Miller and Bounds will help you identify the factors contributing to the problem. Once these contributing factors are controlled, a gum graft procedure will repair the defect and help to prevent additional recession and bone loss.
Gum grafts can be used to cover roots or develop gum tissue where absent due to excessive gingival recession. During this procedure, Dr. Miller or Bounds will take gum tissue from your palate or another donor source to cover the exposed root. This can be done for one tooth or several teeth to even your gum line and reduce sensitivity.
A gum graft can reduce further recession and bone loss. In most cases, it can cover exposed roots to protect them from decay. This may reduce tooth sensitivity and improve esthetics of your smile.
Whether you have gum grafting to prevent further recession or to cover up root surfaces to improve cosmetics, Dr. Miller and Bounds can help. We invite you to change your life today. Call our team at 949-857-1053 or click here to schedule online.
