Socket Preservation
Teeth are extracted for many reasons (i.e. advanced gum disease, tooth decay, failed root canals, root fracture, etc). When a tooth is extracted, it will generally heal with shrinkage of the bone and gum dimensions. If an implant is the planned replacement for the extracted tooth then, a socket preservation technique is performed. This is done by filling the extraction site with a bone graft. This helps regenerate bone and preserves the bone dimension where the future implant is going to be placed. |
